Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card!

FF banner big

Today is our third blog hop, and we’re showing a Shutter Card ! I discovered this type of card a few weeks before and indeed it’s great fun to make one!

If you’re coming from the talented Tanja, then you’re already hopping. If not, you can find all the blogs list at the end of this post. You don’t want to miss one as everybody’s got some fabulous cards to show you!

Here is what I came up with:

Shimmer and Shine - Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card - Mother's Day

(sorry for the poor quality of the photos, my husband changed the settings and I didn’t know how to put the usual settings back! )

I must say I love decorating belly bands. I think they give any box or card an elegant finishing touch, and this one is one of my favourite… The pretty peony from You’ve Got This goes so nicely with the frame tag from Everything Eleanor, you’d think they were designed to work together…

The frame tag is stamped in Pool Party on a Pool Party cardstock and then fussy cut. The peony is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured with alcool markers. It has then received a coat of Wink of Stella. A few rhinestones were added as dew drops.

The base of the shutter card itself is from Pool Party cardstock and I created a “DSP” with the butterfly from You’ve Got This stamp set in Pool Party ink and the little snowflakes from Sheltering Tree in Mint Macaron. If you’re familiar with this blog, you know I love to create my DSP… maybe it is because I don’t feel as guilty when I cut it as I do when I cut a real DSP paper?

The inside has got a panel from the same handmade DSP. I adhered a Wisteria Wonder panel above, on which I die cut a circle, with the circle framelits. Two Perfect Plum banners make the shutter part below the Wisteria Wonder panel. To decorate the shutter, I stamped one of the tags from Everything Eleanor. Inside, there is a little sentiment from Circle of Spring for Mother’s Day (which occurs in May in France). The butterfly inside reminds of the ones on the outside.

Watercolor & White Embossed Happy Birthday

Hello!

If you’re anything like me, you spend way too much time on Pinterest, but there are so many wonderful cards to get inspired from! I was looking for an idea to make a card for a dear friend of mine, and one card, absolutely darling, caught my eye : you can have a look here. It has been made by a wonderful crafter, Nicole.

I wanted to CASE it with a specific stamp set in mind, the beautiful Everything Eleanor. I love the flowers of this stamp set and thought they would allow me to play with watercolour like Nicole did.

Here is the card (I had to take a picture with my phone just before leaving for the party, sorry about the poor quality of the photo!) :

Shimmer and Shine - Watercolor and White Embossed Happy Birthday #StampinUp, #EverythingEleanor, #HeyYou

I used pretty much the same techniques as in Nicole’s video. The flowers are stamped in Versamark then embossed in white on watercolour paper. Then I used distress inks to have a watercolour effect and applied them on the saturated wet paper and let the colours blend. You could totally use your usual Stampin’Up inks too, I just wanted to achieve this pale yellow-orange colour and didn’t have the right hues in SU version.

To make the leaves, as there are no leaves in the stamp set, I used another one, Backyard Basics. This is a retired set but I love it. I stamped and embossed the iris, coloured them with distress inks too and fussy cut them.

The sentiment is from “Hey You” stamp set, I think these are lovely and very useful to have in your stash. I used an old pair of craft scissors to make the wavy end on the paper.

The background is made by pressing the distress inks pads on my “crafting mat” (actually it’s a glass cutting board… very convenient : you can clean it in a breeze 😉 ), then spritzing some water and pressing my paper on the mix… this gives a very warm and soft textured colour background, I was pretty happy with it… I added a few gold sequins and faux stitching with a gel pen and my card was ready to give to my friend 🙂

Supplies (Stampin’Up!):

  • Stamp set: Everything Eleanor, Backyard Basics (retired), Hey You
  • Inks: Soft Suede, Versamark
  • Embossing powder: White Stampin’Emboss Powder
