Shimmer and Shine - Possum Birthday card - #Bokeh #StampinUp, #Nuts About You

Shimmer and Shine - Possum Birthday card - #Bokeh #StampinUp, #Nuts About You

Blog Hop bokeh – Birthday shaker card

Hello 🙂

Today I’m taking part in a fun blog hop project : the first “Famous Five” blog hop ! 🙂 Well actually we were 5 at the beginning but we’re now a few more (and the more, the merrier, of course!)…

This blog hop is about bokeh. You can have a look at my previous card (I made it at Lola‘s) to see what this trendy technique is.

If you’re coming from Emilie’s blog that means you’re already in the blog roll. If not, your can follow the link to her blog at the end of this post.

Here is my contribution : I kept a similar design but I made a birthday shaker card for a little boy 🙂

Shimmer and Shine - Possum Shaker Birthday card - #Bokeh #StampinUp, #Nuts About You

I used the stamp set Nuts about You, it’s a set you can earn if you’re hosting a party and the orders reach a certain amount. I’m particularly fond of the critters and also the design of the “chubby” tree 🙂

To create the bokeh, I used Wild Wasabi, Pear Pizzazz and So Saffron, I explained the technique here. The white dots are made with White Craft ink. Mine was new and very, very juicy and thick, that’s why the dots are quite opaque, next time I’ll practice with the sponge daubers on a piece of a scrap paper before applying ink on my project! The card base is Soft Suede, the sentiment comes from the Big News stamp set.

The tree was stamped in Soft Suede, another time in Wild Wasabi and last in Pear Pizzazz. I fussy cut the tree and the leaves (shame there is no coordinated die! that was a lot of work) and assembled the whole together so that the tree looked more realistic. The cute possum is stamped in Crumb Cake.

Shimmer and Shine - Possum Birthday card - #Bokeh #StampinUp, #Nuts About You

To create the shaker part, I die cut two circles in So Saffron with the framelits (I added a faux-stitching effect with a golden gel pen), then with the biggest circle I die-cut my window in a piece of acetate. I die-cut my foam adhesive too with the help of the same framelits, so convenient! Some sequins give a bit of shine and fun to shake.

Here it is… hope the little birthday boy will like it 🙂

(You can have a look at the supplies at the end of the post)

Edit from 00:44 : I just saw the perfect challenge for our blog hop… how fun is that!

Bokeh style card – La Vie en Rose

Hello!

Last Wednesday, I met some French SU! Demonstrators in the city next to mine, for a crafty afternoon at Lola’s. It was so nice to be able to share with friends my love for paper crafting… I really miss my upline Tracy‘s classes in England… Lots of chatting and laughing, chocolates and apple pies, stamps and inks, and a wonderful new-to-me technique : can a crafty girl ask for more? 🙂

Lola showed us the bokeh technique. You probably have seen lots of cards on the Internet using the bokeh effect so I was happy to give it a try. Not to mention I love the Indescribable Gift flower stamp 🙂

Here is the lovely card designed by Lola :

Shimmer and Shine - La Vie En Rose - #Stampinup, #IndescribableGift, #FlamingoLingo, #Bokeh - Design by Lolascrap et Compagnie

The bokeh technique is rather simple. First of all you have to create a colourful background by sponging various inks on your white cardstock. Then you let it dry and grab a piece of Window Sheet: punch a few circles from different sizes on this Window Sheet to create a stencil. Then sponge White Craft ink on your background paper through the holes. The more random your circles, the more realistic it will look, so don’t hesitate to overlap them, and make some opaque while others are more translucent. Again, as the White Craft Ink can be very thick, let it dry completely.

Stamp your Cherry Blossom Flowers on Whisper White Cardstock with Stazon black ink. We used the watercolour technique to colour them, so we needed a water resistant ink. To grab some ink, just squeeze your ink pad gently with your fingers, to put some ink inside the cover. Pick some ink with your Aquapainter and colour your image just like you would do with real watercolour paint… easy peasy 🙂

Now you can hand-cut the branch (wish there was a die for that!) and die-cut a picture frame with the On Film die. We adhered a piece of Window Sheet on the back of the frame and the branch on top to add a bit of dimension. Same for the sentiment and voilĂ !

Here are our 5 cards together. I enjoyed this afternoon a lot! You can visit my friends’ blogs on the menu on the right 🙂
