Fancy Folds Blog Hop #12: Twist and Pop Card

FF banner bigToday is our blog hop #12, and we’re showing a Twist and Pop Card !
If you’re coming from the talented Tanja, then you’re already hopping. If not, you can find all the blogs list at the end of this post. You don’t want to miss one as everybody’s got some fabulous cards to show you!
Twist and Pop card are all the rage at the moment, so there was plenty of inspiration on Internet. I tried to step out of my comfort zone and try a new colour combo for a baby. There are lots of baby coming late December and in January in my family or friends, and I love to create baby cards.
Here is my take on it:
Shimmer and Shine - Fancy Folds Blog Hop : Twist and Pop card
I used the Balloon Celebration set. These little stars and the clouds are lovely! The front sentiment comes from Jar of Love. I like to mix stamp sets…

The Twist and Pop card is quite easy to do. It folds and open really well and gives an element of surprise to the receiver, that’s fun 🙂

The sentiment comes from the Circle of Spring stamp set. It fits perfectly with a baby card 🙂
The “banners” were made with the Project life dies and the Little Letters thinlits.

I know that everyone in the Stampin’up! world will show you some cool products from the new catalogue. I would have loved to put an order, sadly I haven’t been able to for the moment. So I decided I needed to give a little bit of TLC to some old stamps, and the one I love but haven’t played much with was the Sheltering Tree. I don’t really know why, but now I have decided to showcase it 🙂

Here is the inside of the card. I think those little flowers are cute and perfect for Spring 🙂

Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card!

FF banner big

Today is our third blog hop, and we’re showing a Shutter Card ! I discovered this type of card a few weeks before and indeed it’s great fun to make one!

If you’re coming from the talented Tanja, then you’re already hopping. If not, you can find all the blogs list at the end of this post. You don’t want to miss one as everybody’s got some fabulous cards to show you!

Here is what I came up with:

Shimmer and Shine - Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card - Mother's Day

(sorry for the poor quality of the photos, my husband changed the settings and I didn’t know how to put the usual settings back! )

I must say I love decorating belly bands. I think they give any box or card an elegant finishing touch, and this one is one of my favourite… The pretty peony from You’ve Got This goes so nicely with the frame tag from Everything Eleanor, you’d think they were designed to work together…

Shimmer and Shine - Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card - Mother's Day

The frame tag is stamped in Pool Party on a Pool Party cardstock and then fussy cut. The peony is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured with alcool markers. It has then received a coat of Wink of Stella. A few rhinestones were added as dew drops.

Shimmer and Shine - Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card - Mother's Day

The base of the shutter card itself is from Pool Party cardstock and I created a “DSP” with the butterfly from You’ve Got This stamp set in Pool Party ink and the little snowflakes from Sheltering Tree in Mint Macaron. If you’re familiar with this blog, you know I love to create my DSP… maybe it is because I don’t feel as guilty when I cut it as I do when I cut a real DSP paper?

Shimmer and Shine - Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card - Mother's Day

Shimmer and Shine - Fancy Folds Blog Hop #3: Shutter card - Mother's Day

The inside has got a panel from the same handmade DSP. I adhered a Wisteria Wonder panel above, on which I die cut a circle, with the circle framelits. Two Perfect Plum banners make the shutter part below the Wisteria Wonder panel. To decorate the shutter, I stamped one of the tags from Everything Eleanor. Inside, there is a little sentiment from Circle of Spring for Mother’s Day (which occurs in May in France). The butterfly inside reminds of the ones on the outside.

  • Stamps: You’ve Got This, Everything Eleanor, Sheltering Tree, Circle of Spring

  • Inks: Pool Party, Mint Macaron, Perfect Plum, Memento Tuxedo Black

Poulettes’ Blog Hop Special: April Fools Day!

Hello 🙂

Welcome to the 11th Poulettes’ Blog Hop! You should be coming from the talented Marie, otherwise there is a list at the end of this post to catch up, or else just hop with me and follow the blog hop 🙂

Do you ever feel bored by the products you have, longing for new ones, and desperately trying to create with no mojo? That’s me at the moment. Thus I was interested by this month’s Poulettes’ challenge: April Fools Day! Today is a fun day, so I decided to create a fun project to share with you!

Ok, so I have only one set with fishes (Sea Street, I love it) but I didn’t want to use it. Nothing came while playing with the little fishies. So I opened my trusty Pinterest to browse some new ideas. And shazam! Pinterest did it again: I first tried a random “something” that eventually ended in… a 3D aquarium with a quilled fish! I had great fun creating it, so here it is:

Shimmer and Shine - Poulettes Blog Hop : April Fools Day Aquarium (Stampin'up products)

I’ve been wanting to try the quilling technique for many years. I even bought a starting set a few years ago but I was so frustrated by my poor results (never compare your beginnings with the stunning “middles” you find on Pinterest! I know it… but still do 😦  ), I gave up. But this time I wanted to give it another try, because of this cutie. I used some Mambo Melon strips I had left after I made my sister’s baby anouncement cards.

Shimmer and Shine - Poulettes Blog Hop : April Fools Day Aquarium (Stampin'up products)

To my big surprise, even if cardstock is a bit thick for quilling, it’s not impossible and I was pretty much happy with my fish. I added thin strips of Pool Party and Perfect Plum cardstock to give it beautiful fins like the Bettas I saw not long ago in a pet store. The lips and fin tail are made with Pink Pirouette cardstock.

Shimmer and Shine - Poulettes Blog Hop : April Fools Day Aquarium (Stampin'up products)

I had no googly eye (have to buy some!) so I “made” one with a hand punch circle left over and a black pearl.

Shimmer and Shine - Poulettes Blog Hop : April Fools Day Aquarium (Stampin'up products)

The aquarium in itself is freely inspired by these, but I made my own measurements, so it is 21cm x 8cm x 12cm. I chose Bermuda Bay cardstock to create mine. It is quite sturdy, thanks to the cardstock being double folded on itself and adhered with sticky tape. The bottom of the aquarium is made with a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock, stamped with the only stamp of the whole project, the little droplets from Awesomely Artistic. I put another piece of Bermuda Bay under the aquarium just to give it a nice finishing touch. Some sequins make for shiny gravels.

The algae are made with strips of Pear Pizzaz, that I swirled around a thin paint brush. And now what the fun part : how to give the illusion that my fish float like it’s actually swimming? I added a piece of acetate across the top of the aquarium and made a cut in the middle. I caught the thread tied around the fin of my fish in the acetate, and Voilà 🙂

What do you think? do you like it? I hope so 🙂

supplies:

  • stamps: Awesomely Artistic
  • inks: Sand Stone
  • Papers: Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Pool Party, Perfect Plum, Sahara Sand, Pear Pizzaz

Poulettes’ Blog Hop #9 : Shutter Card – Valentine’s Day

Hello!

Today the Poulettes have decided to take up a challenge: create a shutter card. It looked like something fun to make, so everybody wanted to give it a try. Let’s see what each one has created by hopping from one blog to another!

You should have arrived from Mylou’s blog. If not, head to the end of this post to start at the beginning.

Here is what I came up with: a masculine Valentines shutter card!

Shimmer and Shine - Shutter card : masculine Valentine's day - #StampinUp, #Dotty Angles, #Stars thinlits

I used this tutorial from StampInTexas to make my shutter card. It’s very easy to make and I’ll make more in the future because they are really fun! I did not want to play with traditional Valentines colours, because my husband likes more masculine colours and patterns.

Shimmer and Shine - Shutter card : masculine Valentine's day - #StampinUp, #Dotty Angles, #Stars thinlits

I used Sahara Sand cardstock as the card base. The front panels were stamped in Pacific Point, Marina Mist and Sahara Sand, with a stamp I never used before: the “angle” one from the Dotty Angles set. I have been wondering how to use it from quite a long time, so I’m really chuffed to bit to have found a nice project for it. I like to use all the stamps from a stamp set and I frequently use the “dotty” stamp, so now I feel happy 🙂

Shimmer and Shine - Shutter card : masculine Valentine's day - #StampinUp, #Dotty Angles, #Stars thinlits

The inside is made with another panel, stamped in the same colours as above, but this time the little dotty lines are from the Watercolour Wings stamp set. The panel was die cut with a circle, to create a window for my sentiment, wich is die cut too with a smaller circle.

The “shutter” part is made with two banner die cuts in Pacific Point. They show the sentiment when you open the card!

Shimmer and Shine - Shutter card : masculine Valentine's day - #StampinUp, #Dotty Angles, #Stars thinlits

Lastly, a Sahara Sand belly band holds everything together. I added two stars in Pacific Point and Marina Mist and another sentiment from Watercolor Wings. The stars have been decorated with a blue gel pen.

That’s it! Now I hope my photo addict husband will like it! 🙂

Supplies

Stamps: Dotty Angles, Watercolor Wings,

Dies: Stars thinlits, Banner thinlits, Circle thinlits

Inks & Papers: Sahara Sand, Marina Mist, Pacific Point

Now it’s time to hop on to the extra talended Marie’s blog! Please show her some love!
