Christmas Swap part 3: Surprise Explosion Box

Hello 🙂

Today I’ll show you the last part of my Christmas Swap. You can see the stamped scarf here and the card here.

The 4th item being a chocolate teddy bear, I had to make a surprise for my 3rd creation. Well, that kept me wondering for quite a long time: what actually is a surprise? I had no details on how to interpret the cue word. I came to the conclusion that it’s something you don’t expect (I know, I know… 😉 ). So I decided to make something that wouldn’t look like what it really was… I remembered my friend’s Valérie beautiful explosion box and decided to create my own version:

Shimmer and Shine - Christmas Swap part 3 : Surprise Explosion Box - #StampinUp, #Bold #Butterfly, #Bow #Builder #Punch, #Awesomely #Artistic, #Dotty #Angles, #Best is Yet to come

The pop of the Real Red bow is one part of the surprise, as the rest of my swap is quite monochromatic. I used the score board to create my explosion box in Marina Mist cardstock and decorated it with the background stamp Dotty Angles in two shades of blue, Marina Mist and Soft Sky. The sentiment comes from last year’s Sale-a-Bration SU stamp, but it was too perfect to not use it.

The lid makes the explosion box sturdy enough, and the Whisper White panels make it even sturdier. The cute little bow is, of course, made with the bow builder punch.

Here is the inside:

Again, pops of red with the Petite Petals flowers and the rhinestones on the butterflies. I coloured them with alcohol markers 🙂

The inside white panels are decorated with ferns and splatters from Awesomely Artistic stamp set. The butterflies were cut with the Bold Butterflies thinlit dies and the Butterfly thinlit dies. The sentiment insides means “The best is yet to come” and it comes from the eponymous stamp set.

(Love this little bow! 🙂 )

Christmas Swap part 2: the Card

Hi there!

If you visited my blog yesterday, you know that I’m sharing the Christmas Swap I made for someone living in the Center of France. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can have a look at my first project here. So, after the handmade project, I had to make a card. Of course, because of my central theme, it had to be blue and have a butterfly. But I also wanted it to have a “christmassy” feel, or at least wintery. Butterflies are not usually linked with winter, so I had to find a way to add some kind of… “frozen” effect to it.

Ok, maybe not so “wintery”, but I tried 😉

The beautiful rhododendron flower and the butterfly are from the Best Is Yet To Come stamp set. I coloured them with alcohol markers in shades of artic blue and ice grey. I added some Dazzling Details to the flowers and the wings of the butterfly. The background is made with a stamp from another set, Awesomely Artistic, in Soft Sky ink. Then the “Joy” die cut comes from the Wonderful Wreath Framelits Dies, on Silver Glimmer Paper.

I tried to take a photo without the flash, to show the real colours and the shimmery effect. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of the inside, which is decorated too.

Christmas Swap part 1: Butterfly scarf

Hello!

I hope you all had a very nice Christmas with your family. We’re just back from Brittany and the girls and baby Alex were spoilt rotten 🙂

I want to share a Christmas Swap I made before going for a fellow crafter I never met, from the North of France. We both filled a form to give each other some informations about what we liked. She wrote that she loved butterflies and the colour Blue… so I went with these elements as the central theme of my swap. We were supposed to make a card, a handmade project, a surprise and add something sweet.

I’ll share the handmade project first. I decided to think “out of the box” and try something completely new (at least, for me): stamp on fabric. I did a few research on the web to figure out which kind of ink I could use and opted for the Versafine Majestic Blue. I bought a turquoise scarf and stamped the butterfly from a retired SU! set, Backyard Basics. I love this set, the designs are so delicate, I can’t give it away…

Here is the scarf all stamped. I added a pretty little tag made with the Note Tag punch, decorated with some Soft Sky dots from the current Butterfly set, Watercolour Wings, a fishtail banner and the same butterfly as on the scarf, handcut. A ribbon ties all together nicely.

You can see how delicate the butterflies are, I was very happy with how it turned out.

I randomly stamped the butterfly, to create a more realistic effect.

I hope the lady liked it. I really enjoyed making it 🙂 I’ll try this technique on other fabrics later, for sure!

Supplies (all from Stampin’Up! unless otherwise stated):

  • Stamps : Backyard Basics,
  • Inks: Soft Sky, Versafine Majestic Blue (non SU)
  • Papers: Whisper White, Soft Sky

Sale-a-Bration swap

Hello !

Today I’d like to share a card I made for a swap between Stampin’Up! Demonstrators. We were supposed to use only Sale-a-Bration items, and I tried to stretch my stamps to get something different. I liked it, but it was too much time-consuming because of the little hearts background (I made it just before Christmas) to make it multiple times for the swap!

So I went with another design, much quicker, that I’ll share later. I used the same stamp set as in this card : Eurêka.

Shimmer and Shine - #Eureka #SaleaBration #StampinUp

I started to stamp the sentiment in Tempting Turquoise but I masked off the “Merci” part with a little sticky note, in order to stamp it again later in Blackberry Bliss. With the Stamp-a-ma-jig this is very easy. I hand-cut the tag but you can get the coordinating punch to make it in a breeze 🙂

For the background I used the tiny heart chain that comes in the set. I carefully draw lines with my pencil before on the Whisper White cardstock, and again used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to make sure I would stamp them all lined up. Then I die-cut the cardstock with one of the banner framelit die. I die-cut a bigger framelit banner in vellum and added faux-stitching with my gel pen. I kept the base of the card pretty simple as I thought the banners were already quite busy. The heart banner was stuck on the vellum using snail adhesive and that allowed me to see where I could hide my adhesive for the vellum, as I didn’t want it to show through. The sentiment has been popped-up with foam adhesive, et voilà 🙂

Supplies (Stampin’Up!):

  • Stamp set: Sale-A-Bration Eurêka (free with 60€/45£ orders! available from the 6th of January)
