Happy Birthday, you prehistoric thing!

A few days ago was my brother’s birthday. Although I remember him very well when he was a baby (we’re ten years apart), he’s a man now and I like to tease him about his age… So I went to my craftroom and “dug out” the perfect stamp set to make him a birthday card 🙂

Shimmer and Shine - You prehistoric thing! - #StampinUp, #Dinoroar, #Moonlight #DSP

I used a piece of Moonlight DSP that was sitting on my desk for a while, and then I decided to colour the dinos according to this colour scheme, in “Hello Honey” and “Mossy Meadow” tones. The DSP was adhered to a kraft card base, I stamped the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black like the dinos and mated it on a piece of Hello Honey cardstock. The dinos were mounted with foam tape… and that’s it!

Shimmer and Shine - You prehistoric thing! - #StampinUp, #Dinoroar, #Moonlight #DSP

I could not take a picture of the inside before writing my message to my brother, but you can have a sneak peek here. A strip of DSP was added at the bottom of a piece of Whisper White cardstock, and I stamped the pterodactyl in black, without colouring it, to match the front card. I then hand wrote “… you prehistoric thing!” to finish the card. My brother laughed, mission accomplished 🙂

Supplies (Stampin’Up!) :

  • Stamp sets : Dinoroar (retired!)
  • Inks : Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Papers: Whisper White, Kraft cardstock, Hello Honey
  • DSP : Moonlight DSP stack

Blog Hop bokeh – Birthday shaker card

Hello 🙂

Today I’m taking part in a fun blog hop project : the first “Famous Five” blog hop ! 🙂 Well actually we were 5 at the beginning but we’re now a few more (and the more, the merrier, of course!)…

This blog hop is about bokeh. You can have a look at my previous card (I made it at Lola‘s) to see what this trendy technique is.

If you’re coming from Emilie’s blog that means you’re already in the blog roll. If not, your can follow the link to her blog at the end of this post.

Here is my contribution : I kept a similar design but I made a birthday shaker card for a little boy 🙂

Shimmer and Shine - Possum Shaker Birthday card - #Bokeh #StampinUp, #Nuts About You

I used the stamp set Nuts about You, it’s a set you can earn if you’re hosting a party and the orders reach a certain amount. I’m particularly fond of the critters and also the design of the “chubby” tree 🙂

To create the bokeh, I used Wild Wasabi, Pear Pizzazz and So Saffron, I explained the technique here. The white dots are made with White Craft ink. Mine was new and very, very juicy and thick, that’s why the dots are quite opaque, next time I’ll practice with the sponge daubers on a piece of a scrap paper before applying ink on my project! The card base is Soft Suede, the sentiment comes from the Big News stamp set.

The tree was stamped in Soft Suede, another time in Wild Wasabi and last in Pear Pizzazz. I fussy cut the tree and the leaves (shame there is no coordinated die! that was a lot of work) and assembled the whole together so that the tree looked more realistic. The cute possum is stamped in Crumb Cake.

Shimmer and Shine - Possum Birthday card - #Bokeh #StampinUp, #Nuts About You

To create the shaker part, I die cut two circles in So Saffron with the framelits (I added a faux-stitching effect with a golden gel pen), then with the biggest circle I die-cut my window in a piece of acetate. I die-cut my foam adhesive too with the help of the same framelits, so convenient! Some sequins give a bit of shine and fun to shake.

Here it is… hope the little birthday boy will like it 🙂

(You can have a look at the supplies at the end of the post)

Edit from 00:44 : I just saw the perfect challenge for our blog hop… how fun is that!

Happy Birthday – Butterfly Negatives

Hi there!

I’ve got a card for you today. I wanted to use the beautiful Butterfly thinlit again, but this card came by accident :)

I was planning to color the butterflies with my sponge dauber, and the “shadow” left on my scrap paper turned out so nice, I finally decided to make a card using the negatives!

Shimmer and Shine - Happy Birthday - Butterfly negatives - #StampinUp, #Butterfly, #Framelits

First of all, you obviously have to die-cut your butterfly. Then, being careful not to move your butterfly, you have to gently tap your sponge dauber over it, like a stencil, to make the silhouette appear on your card. I went from dark to light in order to make the body of the butterfly the focal point, and insist on its delicate wings.

I didn’t want the sentiment to hide the butterflies, so I stamped it with Versamark ink on vellum, and then heat embossed it with sparkling gold embossing powder to match the strip of glitter paper I added on the side.

I’m pretty pleased with the result :) and even better, with this technique you have the die-cut butterflies left to play with, so I’ll show you the card I’ll make with them in a few days… stay tuned!

Edit from 11/07/2015 : you can see what I created with the butterflies here 🙂

Supplies (Stampin’Up!):

  • Stamp set: (non Stampin’Up)
  • Dies: Butterfly Thinlit Dies
  • Inks: Versamark
  • Papers: Whisper White, White Vellum Cardstock, Glimmer Paper Gold
  • Tools: Sponge Daubers

Roses for my mum

Hi everyone!

Today I share a project I made for my Mum’s birthday. While surfing on Pinterest I came accross a beautiful ombre cake and it inspired me for the kind of gift I had in mind. I wanted to use the wonderful Spiral Flower Die that allows you to make the cutest little roses ever. Sadly I didn’t have any matching papers in these lovely blueish violet tones, so I went for purple instead.

Shimmer and Shine - Ombre Roses Frame - #StampinUp, #SpiralFlowerDie, #ombre, #roses, #purple, #butterfly

To die cut the roses, you just need a quarter of a A4 sheet, so each line of roses is only one cardstock for the whole frame. You have to curl up the die-cut roses to help you roll them into realistic roses, it’s a bit tricky at first but it gets easier with practice. I used white glue to adhere the flowers to their base (you may want to use a heat gun if your roses are going to be manipulated a lot, like on a box for instance, but mines were suposed to stay in a frame, so I was happy with the glue) and then I used a glue dot to stick them on the white cardstock background.

Here is a closer view of the roses. You can see I added tiny transparent pearls on some of the roses, so that it looks like dew drops. I love putting discreet details like those as a little surprise for the person who really pays attention to my work 😉

Shimmer and Shine - Ombre Roses Frame - #StampinUp, #SpiralFlowerDie, #ombre, #roses, #purple, #butterfly

I added a butterfly just because… I absolutely adore this die, it’s so delicate! But I didn’t want it to compete with the roses, so I left it white with just a rhinestone on its body. I stuck it with a glue dot directly on the glass so if my mum wanted, she would be able to take it out, but she seemed to like it too…

It’s your day! Masculine B-day Card

Hi there!

Hope your Easter holidays went great. Mine were good, with two little girls very happy to look for the chocolate eggs in our garden, and eat them as soon as they were discovered 🙂

I still have a lot to do to unpack the last boxes from our move, so that’s why I don’t have much time to craft. The card I’m sharing today is an old one I made for my husband’s bithday and forgot to show it here… I always struggle to make masculine cards, so I thought I’d share it for inspiration.

Here it is:

Shimmer and Shine - It's your day! Masculine Bday Card - #StampinUp, #Birthday, #Masculine, #Fabulous Four, #FourFeathers, #Star

I die-cut a star shape in white felt using the Star Framelit dies. I love mixing textures with paper and felt… 🙂 Then I stamped the feathers with Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point and Wild Wasabi, before die-cutting them with the corresponding die. I used a little string I had in my stash to tie them together and give a “rustic” look. The sentiment was stamped in Chocolate Chip and means “It’s your day!”. Then I spritzed some Vanilla Shimmer Spritz on the card base… Quite happy with the shimmery effect 🙂 Shimmer BUT still masculine 😉

Shimmer and Shine - It's your day! Masculine Bday Card - #StampinUp, #Birthday, #Masculine, #Fabulous Four, #FourFeathers, #Star

Does this card remind you of another one? Yes, it was made the same day as this one. I had to play with felt and feathers 😉 Do you like them?

Supplies (Stampin’Up!):

  • Stamp set: Fabulous Four, Four Feathers
  • Dies: Four Feathers, Star Framelit Dies
  • Inks: Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point, Wild Wasabi, Chocolate Chip
  • Papers: Crumb Cake
  • Embellishment : Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz

Watercolor & White Embossed Happy Birthday

If you’re anything like me, you spend way too much time on Pinterest, but there are so many wonderful cards to get inspired from! I was looking for an idea to make a card for a dear friend of mine, and one card, absolutely darling, caught my eye : you can have a look here. It has been made by a wonderful crafter, Nicole.

I wanted to CASE it with a specific stamp set in mind, the beautiful Everything Eleanor. I love the flowers of this stamp set and thought they would allow me to play with watercolour like Nicole did.

Here is the card (I had to take a picture with my phone just before leaving for the party, sorry about the poor quality of the photo!) :

Shimmer and Shine - Watercolor and White Embossed Happy Birthday #StampinUp, #EverythingEleanor, #HeyYou

I used pretty much the same techniques as in Nicole’s video. The flowers are stamped in Versamark then embossed in white on watercolour paper. Then I used distress inks to have a watercolour effect and applied them on the saturated wet paper and let the colours blend. You could totally use your usual Stampin’Up inks too, I just wanted to achieve this pale yellow-orange colour and didn’t have the right hues in SU version.

To make the leaves, as there are no leaves in the stamp set, I used another one, Backyard Basics. This is a retired set but I love it. I stamped and embossed the iris, coloured them with distress inks too and fussy cut them.

The sentiment is from “Hey You” stamp set, I think these are lovely and very useful to have in your stash. I used an old pair of craft scissors to make the wavy end on the paper.

The background is made by pressing the distress inks pads on my “crafting mat” (actually it’s a glass cutting board… very convenient : you can clean it in a breeze 😉 ), then spritzing some water and pressing my paper on the mix… this gives a very warm and soft textured colour background, I was pretty happy with it… I added a few gold sequins and faux stitching with a gel pen and my card was ready to give to my friend 🙂

Supplies (Stampin’Up!):

  • Stamp set: Everything Eleanor, Backyard Basics (retired), Hey You
  • Inks: Soft Suede, Versamark
  • Embossing powder: White Stampin’Emboss Powder

If you would like to order any of the items used on the project above, you can click on my on-line shop or just send me an e-mail, I’ll be very happy to help you with your order.
